One day in Kamala

North of Patong on the west coast of Phuket is Kamala. This  bay and fishing village is encircled by tree lined hills and is considered to be one of the most beautiful places in Phuket. This used to be a small Muslim fishing village but has now evolved into a tourist town. It still retains  a strong Muslim influence and because of this the nightlife is quiet, but there are still many bars and restaurants to visit. Due to its relaxed atmosphere you will find many Phuket Private Villas and Phuket Luxury Homes on the drive into Kamala.

In the morning head down to Kamala Beach. The beach is beautiful and strikes a happy medium between the busier beaches like Patong and the very quiet beaches such as Surin. You will find your normal Phuket beach activities available here, including water-sports and Thai massage. For lunch you will find many quality bars and chilled out restaurants serving delicious local food

At the southern end of the beach  you will find Wat Baan Kamala . This is a very holy place for the locals and respectful dress is essential. Despite its modern appearance this temple has been around for a very long time, the modern visage is a result of renovation after the 2004 tsunami. At Kamala Temple you can admire colourful and intricate paintings and statues depicting the life of the Buddha, and a wonderful bell tower.

If you happen to be visiting Kamala on a Friday you must also head over to the local market. An assault on the senses, the market is awash with food, cds, clothing, souveneirs and many other goods for sale; it is certainly one way to get a real taste of Kamala, and Phuket in general.

In the evening head over to the Phuket Fantasea Show. It is described as the ultimate cultural theme park and is a mixture of one of the  biggest and most spectacular shows on the island and a cultural theme park. It is  great entertainment for all the family and a truly unique experience.
