Temples in Phuket

Did you know that in Phuket there are 29 temples dotted around the island?! Although they all have their own particular character here are our top 5 to see while staying in your luxury Phuket villa.

Wat Chalong: Wat Chalong has been around for over 100 years and is considered one of the most important temples in Phuket, as well as the largest.  It is dedicated to two venerable monks who were heavily involved in resisting the Chinese rebellion of 1876 and healing the injured. The temple is famous for its relic from the Buddha and its painted walls depicting scenes from the life of the Buddha.

Wat Putta Mongkon: An architectural beauty, this temple can be found in the heart of Phuket Town. Take your time to walk round the building and its gardens. In the garden each tree holds a worthwhile Buddhist principle written both in Thai and English.

Wat Phra Thong: This temple is situated near the Thalang district office and is famous for its unusual half buried golden Buddha. Thought to be one of the oldest temples in Phuket, there is also a museum that exhibits items that have been donated by local residents.

Wat Kathu: This is a small peaceful and beautiful temple based in Kathu village. This is a particularly lovely temple to visit as alongside the beautiful decorations, it exudes tranquility; and the monks that work here and are happy to chat (in both Thai and English) to passing visitors about the temple.

Big Buddha: The 45 metre tall, white marble Phuket Big Buddha is host to some of the most amazing views on the island.  A relatively modern construction the statue was completed in 2004, (built mainly on donations) and has become one of Phuket’s biggest tourist attractions. At the top of the Buddha you can see 360 degree views of Phuket, a must see for any visitor!
