Continuing our guide to the best beaches in Phuket this month we are focusing on Bang Tao Beach. Situated on the western coast of Phuket it is still relatively close to Naithon Beach and Vista del Mar Phuket Villas (approx 10-15 minutes drive).

This crescent shaped, 6km long stretch of beach has the usual idyllic, palm fringed beauty that we have come to associate with Phuket. However, where this beach really comes into its own is in its tranquility. The northernmost area of the beach is so far undeveloped, and is the perfect place to come if you want to escape the crowds. The normal facilities are available such as beach restaurants, water sports and amenities, there is even horse riding organised by a local riding club. These are relatively low key activities compared to many Phuket beaches but still greatly enjoyable. Surrounding the beach are an array of luxury Phuket hotels, that again can offer some high standard facilities.

Just a few minutes walk away from the beach is the town of Cherngtalay, and the original fishing village that predated the tourist trade . Although you will find a good array of dining experiences and the famous ‘fresh market’, many locals still make their living here as their predecessors did – by fishing, farming and rubber tapping.
